In a Thousand Words or Less

This is a call for 2010 Seniors (and Juniors too!)!

We are looking for Juniors and Seniors to model for us! All models receive a full session at no cost, along with 48 wallets, two 5×7s and an 8×10. It doesn’t get better than that! You pick your own outfits, name your date and we’ll be there to photograph you looking your best. We’ll even print up cards for you to give to friends. Each time you refer a friend and they book a session, you get a free 5×7 and so does your friend! [ We also have t-shirts coming in that you'll get, but it's a little cheesy to have that as an incentive ]

Can you feel it? Spring is coming soon! Spring is positively my favorite time of year. (Especially after a slushy, indecisive Winter!)

Because I am all happy and excited for Spring, I have decided to have a little giveaway/contest/feel-good experience.

Who benefits? We all do! You get a chance to win one of several custom sessions I will be giving away, and I get to do what I love — shoot! I am giving away four (4) sessions, each valued at $250. With each session is a complimentary set of prints. It doesn’t get better than that!

There are four categories for the four sessions which all happen in the Spring:

You may be wondering how to enter. Good question. If I were mean, I’d have you write an essay. But we can be more creative.

To enter, simply tell me a story about one of the four categories. You can make a video, write a poem, sing a song or tell a story in photos. Be creative, but tell me a story about one of the categories. The story may be a real-life experience, or it may be a tall-tale your grandfather told you. It might be happy, it might be sad. Be creative, get excited for Spring! It’s coming!

When you’ve made your story, simply email me (with all links, etc. included) at jer.nelsen(at)gmail.com (replace (at) with the @ symbol) and have the subject of the email as the category you chose.

Entries are due by March 15, 2010. Hop to it!

I had a GREAT time in Downer’s Grove, IL last weekend with Tyler and Lauren!

We did engagement photos in Tivoli theater in the downtown area — it’s an awesome little theater with a long history and some great popcorn. (It actually won a Chicago-wide award for ‘best popcorn’!) It is a special theater to Tyler and Lauren. It is their ‘date theater’ — where they go on a number of their dates. They LOVE movies together and LOVE being with each other!

I LOVED the shoot and look forward to the wedding!

This morning I awoke to a fresh blanket of powdery white snow all over. It was the perfect temperature and the first convincing snowfall, so I popped out of bed. (Okay, it was more of a yawn, sigh, grunt and a slide out of bed–but you get the picture.)

I grabbed my camera (with my new 70-200/2.8) and asked Laura to put on a gorgeous white dress from her closet. Needless to say, she looked absolutely stunning. I had to remember to press the shutter. Ha.

We also had lunch at the Blue Lion Coffee House in Pierceton. Great, warm little place. I highly recommend it if you are ever in the area. We couldn’t leave without taking just a couple of photos.

I had the great opportunity to photograph my friend Sonja this afternoon. It was bitter cold, but she played a good sport. I’m REALLY excited about how these photos turned out. She is so beautiful! Love it.
